Our UniAdvocates Service
Our UniAdvocates Service offers Independent Generic Advocacy Service to University Students and Trainee Teachers with the National Institute of Teaching looking for support to manage challenges during their time at university, college or on placements.
Our team of professional advocates provides independent, impartial and non-adversarial advocacy designed to help students to express their views, understand options, prioritise actions and access the right support at the right time.
Working with a professional mental health advocate offers a safe, confidential, and personalised way to navigate challenges linked to studies, training, wellbeing, or student life.
Our UniAdvocates can help with:
- Ensuring your voice is heard, especially during periods of distress or poor mental health.
- Preparing for meetings and providing support before, during, and after — including meetings with your university, school, or the National Institute of Teaching.
- Making informed decisions about workload, deadlines, attendance, and academic or training concerns.
- Managing accommodation challenges and maintaining social and cultural engagement.
- Communicating with funding bodies, employers, or your Initial Teacher Training (ITT) provider.
- Making and following up on internal or external complaints.
- Advocating on your behalf when appropriate.
Our focus is on empowerment — helping students and trainee teachers to help themselves by building confidence, clarity, and access to the right resources.
We are committed to Listening, Representing, and Empowering.
This advocacy service is not an emergency, crisis or clinical mental-health service. It does not provide immediate support where there is a risk to life or serious harm. In an emergency call 999. For urgent mental-health support, contact the NHS urgent mental-health helpline, NHS 111, or the relevant local crisis service.
